Stephen Kennedy, 54, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, in Phoenix following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Revs. Dan Guenther, Tim Hogan and Jerry Feierfeil officiating. Private family graveside services will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 6 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Northside Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Stephen John Kennedy was born Aug. 19, 1950, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Shirley (Remer) Kennedy and the late Major Lawrence James Kennedy of rural Hinton, Iowa. He grew up on a farm near Hinton. He attended St. Michael's Grade School and graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1968, in Sioux City. He graduated from Iowa State University.

He married Sharon Flatt in Des Moines in June 1977. They moved to Phoenix, where he worked as a certified public accountant and ran his own computer consulting firm.

He is survived by his children, Kimberly, Scott and Ryan, all of Phoenix; his mother, Shirley Kennedy of Hinton, Iowa; seven sisters and spouses, Sue Haddock of Columbia, S.C., Beth and John McGrath of Lawton, Iowa, Patrice and Dave Langenfeld of Pella, Iowa, Krista and George Smith of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Annette and Terry Mills of Elko, Nev., Shaune and Eric Knowlton of Dacula, Ga., and Amy and Mark Weisz of Fairfield, Calif.; three brothers and their wives, Brendan and Patty of Phoenix, Jon and Beth of Gainesville, Va., and Tim and Janis of Aurora, Colo.; 16 nieces; and 20 nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Major Lawrence James Kennedy; a nephew; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Honorary pallbearers will be his daughter, Kimberly Kennedy, his two sons, Scott and Ryan, three brothers, Brendan, Jon and Tim Kennedy, and Jim Babe and Mike Ellwanger.
