Elna Marie Jordahl, 95, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Kahl House Nursing Home in Davenport.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.
Mrs. Jordahl, the former Elna Jahde, was born in Schleswig, Iowa, on Feb. 18, 1908. At the age of 6, she moved with her parents, Herman and Margaret Jahde, to Bronson, Iowa. She graduated from Bronson High School in 1927. She attended Morningside College and the University of Northern Iowa. She taught in rural schools in Woodbury and Crawford counties for 13 years. She took great pride in teaching and loved helping the children learn.
In August 1940, she married Bernhard "Ben" Jordahl. They farmed in the Le Mars and Akron, Iowa, areas until 1964, when they moved into Akron. While there, she worked in the Akron nursing home. They moved to Sioux City in 1970. She worked in the former Billy Sunday nursing home until she retired in 1974.
She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church. For the last year and a half, she resided in Davenport.
Survivors include a sister, Phyllis Chinn of Davenport; a son and his wife, Laren and Marlene of Davenport; a daughter, Mrs. Stephen (Janice) Roeder of Okatie, S.C.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
