Jimmy E. Rowe, 69, of Le Mars, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars following a courageous battle with cancer.
Jimmy E. Rowe was born Sept. 14, 1936, in Gowrie, Iowa, the son of Cordy and Mabel (Burnett) Rowe. Jim was baptized in the Methodist faith. He was raised and attended school in Gowrie. On July 21, 1953 Jim and Evelyn Haines were united in marriage in Ft. Dodge.
Jim worked for a summer with the railroad before he began working at the USG Gypsum Mill in Ft. Dodge. Jim later opened his own auto body repair shop and worked for various auto dealers in the area. Following his work with auto body, Jim began his career in the meat packing industry at Iowa Beef Processors in Ft. Dodge. He would later become the plant engineer at American Beef in Ft. Morgan, Colo., Dubuque Packing at Le Mars, Great Plains Beef in Council Bluffs, Pepper Pack in Denver, Colo., and Williston Pack in Williston, N.D.
Using the experience they gained throughout the years, Jim and his son Kerry started their own business called Rowe's Millwright Service where they serviced and installed machinery in packing plants throughout the nation. His sons Brian and Scott later joined the company as partners.
Jim was an avid car collector and enjoyed the time he spent restoring them. He also enjoyed hunting, however, his real hobby was work. Most important to Jim was the love he held for his family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Evelyn of Le Mars; a son Kerry and his wife Sheri, a daughter Sharon Sailer and her husband John, a son Brian and his wife Laurie, and a son Scott and his wife Tina, all of Le Mars; 17 grandchildren: Wesley Kramer of Sioux City, Cordy Pearson of Denver, Colo., Marcia Barnes of Sioux City, Quinn Pearson of Coronado, Calif., Phillip Kramer of Le Mars, Julia, Shayla, and Brody Rowe of Le Mars, Cody Krisle of Dodge City, Kan., Larissa Rowe, Shelby Sailer, Cassie Rowe, Skyler Sailer, Kendrick and Levi Rowe, all of Le Mars; two great-grandchildren, Yarexi Barnes and Cristian Joaquin; a son-in-law, Rob Pearson of Centennial, Colo.; a brother, Jerry and his wife Marva Jean of Ft. Dodge; and several aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Cordy; his mother Mabel and step-father Bill Franklin; a daughter, Pamela Pearson on June 18, 2005; and a son-in-law, Wade Kramer.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The Rev. Jason Larson will officiate. Burial will take place after the funeral at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars with lunch and fellowship to follow at the Mauer - Johnson Family Gathering Room. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the funeral home prior to the funeral.
