CAROLYN M. WOOD
Le Mars, Iowa—Carolyn Mae Wood, 79, of LeMars, died Monday, June 17, 1996, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in LeMars with the Rev. Gordon Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Floyd Valley Cemetery, rural Merrill. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wood was born May 11, 1917, near Merrill, the daughter of B. A. “Art” and Albena (Winter) Bogenrief. She attended country school a Plymouth Township 1 and graduated from Merrill High School in 1934. She attended Western Union College, majoring in music.
She taught voice in LeMars for several years and sang with the area bands. She moved to Miami, Fla., in 19512, where she was employed with various firms.
Her first marriage to Richard Laughton ended in divorce and she married W. G. Wood in October 1960. The couple lived in Miami, Decatur, Ga., and Valdese, N.C., prior to moving to LeMars in 1977. He died in December 1987.
Mrs. Wood was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Joe Byrnes of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sons and their wives, Thomas and Dianne Laughton of LeMars and John and Ronni Laughton of Long Beach, Calif.; a stepson, E. G. “Woody” Wood of Charlotte, N. C.; a brother and his wife, James and Kay Bogenrief, of Merrill; six grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald Bogenrief, and a stepson, David Wood.
