SAVAGE, REINSCH, GOSS, MAYFIELD

Clyde A. Savage, 86, of Sioux City died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Morris officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., with the Rev. A.T. Washington officiating, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Savage was born Dec. 27, 1916, on a farm near James, Iowa, the son of George F. and Rosabelle (Reinsch) Savage. He grew up in the James area. He was educated at Hungerford County School and attended Hinton High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was in the European Theater.

He married Hollis Goss in 1940. To this marriage two daughters were born. Hollis died in August 1958.

He married Lillian B. Mayfield on Sept. 3, 1960, in Sioux City. To this marriage a son and daughter were acquired. He was employed in the automobile repair business as a painter and retired from Brouillette Body Shop in December 1979.

Mr. Savage attended Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 560. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, hunting and fishing and enjoyed his fishing trips to Snake Falls Camp in Canada. He loved training horses and dogs and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian of Sioux City; three daughters, Janet Monk and her husband, Wayne, Karen Waddell and her husband, Eugene, and Mary Campbell and her husband, Jack, all of Sioux City; a son, John Mayfield and his wife, Carmen of Kyle, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Joyce McCormick and her husband, Albert, Bonnie Behrens and Rosella Behrens Dage; four grandchildren, Rhonda Hall, Renee Crabtree, Todd Monk and Jennifer Mayfield; and five great-grandchildren, April Crabtree, Megan Irish, Trevor Hall, Calie Cable and Corey Cable.

In addition to his first wife, Hollis, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd and Robert; and two brothers-in-law, Dale and Raymond Behrens.

Pallbearers will be Rodney McCormick, Scott McCormick, Dick Wheelen, Todd Monk, Jack Campbell and John Mayfield.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
