MRS. CLARA REICHERT

Mrs. Clara Reichert, 86, lifelong resident of LeMars, died Tuesday (June 11, 1974) at her residence at 114 3rd Ave. NW, where she had resided since a child of 14. She had suffered ill health for two months.

She was born Nov. 16, 1887, in LeMars, the daughter of James and Louisa Small, who came to LeMars from England in 1882. Her father was a lifelong employee of the P.F. Dalton family.

Clara Small graduated in 1906 from LeMars high school and was employed for many years by the late Dr. R.M. Figg, longtime LeMars dentist.

Her marriage to George Reichert, manager and owner of the Union Hotel, took place Sept. 10, 1921, in LeMars.

After her husband’s death in July 1934, Mrs. Reichert took over active management of the Union Hotel until the property was sold. Under the direction of the Reicherts, the Union Hotel was one of the leading hotels in the state.

During the 1940s, Mrs. Reichert was again employed by a well-known LeMars dentist, the late Dr. W.J. Brucher.

Mrs. Reichert was a lifelong member of St. George’s Episcopal church and women’s guilds of the church. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. George’s church and held the longest continual membership in the congregation’s history.

Graveside rites will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at LeMars Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Joseph Gregori, rector of St. Thomas Episcopal church, Sioux City, officiating.

A memorial holy communion service will follow at 10:45 at St. George’s Episcopal church.

Burial will be under the direction of Luken-Johnson Funeral Home.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Marilyn) Broocks, Freeport, Ill., Mrs. Loren (Jean) Brown, Osage, and Mrs. Dick (Glada) Koerselman, editor of the LeMars Daily Sentinel; and five grandchildren, Gay, Stephen, Allen, Martin and Brian Broocks, all of Freeport.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Lily, and brother Harry, who both died at Aberdeen, S.D.
