FUNERAL SERVICES TODAY FOR HINTON CRASH VICTIMS

Mrs. Walter W. Held, 78, of Hinton, Iowa, whose husband was killed Sunday in a two-car crash four and a half miles north of Hinton on U.S. 75, died Tuesday morning at a Sioux City hospital of injuries received in the crash.

Double funeral services for Mr. Held, 80, and his wife, both prominent in Plymouth County farm community and activities, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Hinton United Methodist church.

The Rev. Walden J. Paige will officiate. Burial will be in Floyd Valley-Melbourne Cemetery east of Hinton under the direction of the Nelson-Berger Northside Funeral Home of Sioux City.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Held will be Howard Held, Charles Ellison, Jack Spies, Raymond Swanson, Virgil Newberg and Lamar Jones Sr.

Mrs. Held, the former Mary Royse, was born July 6, 1894, at Rolling Prairie, Ind., where she was reared. She was graduated from DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind., where she was a member of Mortar Board, and taught for three years in Indiana.

She was married to Mr. Held Aug. 19, 1921, at Rockville, Ind. The couple moved to the farm home in rural Hinton where they lived all their married life.

Mrs. Held was past president of the Plymouth County Federated Clubs, past president of the Plymouth County Farm Bureau Women and past president of the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the Hinton United Methodist church, of which she was a member. She was active in church work and directed the church choir for several years. She also directed the Plymouth County Chorus, and was a member of the American Association of University Women.

Survivors are two sons, Charles of Omaha and Dr. Gordon of Yankton, S.D.; four daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Mary Lou) Feikema of Sioux City, Mrs. Joe (Esther) Legg of Anamosa, Iowa, Mrs. Tom (Carolyn) Davies of Princeton, Ore., and Mrs. Ruth Held of Yankton; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
