MRS. MARGARET DEMARAY

Mrs. Margaret Brown Demaray, longtime resident of LeMars, passed away at her home at 121 1st Ave. S.E. on December 28 after a sickness of several years. She was 94 years, 11 months and 26 days of age.

Margaret A. Brown was born in LaFayette county, Wisconsin, January 2, 1859. She moved with her parents to Harlan, Iowa. Two years later to Missouri Valley, Iowa, where she lived 15 years. She then moved to Gobek, Kansas, where she met and married A.C. Demaray. Their first ten years of married life were spent on the Demaray farm in Washington township, Plymouth county. The couple retired to LeMars in 1903. Mr. Demaray passed away August 14, 1928.

During her years in LeMars, Mrs. Demaray had her home opened to many Westmar and Western Union college boys, who could not have attained a college education without outside help. A total of 38 boys found sanctuary in her home, where they were given board and room. These boys came and went in the years from 1903 to about 1949.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 31, 1953, at 2:00 p.m. at Mauer’s funeral home with Rev. H.V. Bartz officiating. Burial will be in the LeMars City Cemetery under the direction of Mauers.

Deceased was a member of the Methodist church and the Rebecca Lodge when younger.
