SIOUX CITY JOURNAL Thursday, November 09, 2000AKRON, Iowa -- Caryl J. Siebens, 93, of Akron died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Akron City Convalescent Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Plymouth Presbyterian Church in rural Akron, with the Rev. Randy Knuth officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Mrs. Siebens was born Sept. 15, 1907, in Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Estella (Tucker) McCorkell. She taught rural school in the Akron area.
She married John E. Siebens on May 22, 1929, in Akron. The couple farmed in the Akron area until the retired and moved into Akron in 1965. Her husband died in June 1977.
She was a member of Plymouth Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. JC Chapter, Rural Home Culture Club and Book and Thimble Club.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Daryl and Claire of Akron; two daughters and their husbands, Norma and Ronald Wendt of Akron and Virginia and Edmond "Buzz" Leekley of Westfield, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Donna Whitaker of Frisco, Texas; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Whitaker of Hamilton, Ill., Jean Esterberg of Alexandria, Minn., and Lois Nielsen of Akron; and three sisters-in-law, Myrtle McCorkell of Salem, S.D., Blanche Siebens of Le Mars, Iowa, and Martha Siebens of Pampano Beach, Fla.
She was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Whitaker; a grandson, Christopher Siebens; a great-grandson; a brother, Wesley; and four sisters, Esther Clarey, Alta Mentzer, Sybil Whitaker and Eva Olsen.
Pallbearers will be Paul Clarey, Howard and Raymond McCorkell, Jim Mentzer and Norman and Roger Nielsen.
