John A. Hamman, 46, died unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, from a tractor accident.

John Alan Hamman was born Dec. 28, 1961, at Le Mars, the son of Francis and Linda (Phippen) Hamman. He grew up in the Kingsley area graduating from Kingsley High School. After graduating from high school he attended Western Iowa Technical Community College in Sioux City, to study auto mechanics. After graduating from WIT, he worked in California on high rise construction before returning to work at Wilson Trailer Company in Sioux City.

He married Sonya Luksan Oct. 22, 1994, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley.

After working at Wilson Trailer company he worked at Wells' Dairy Inc. in Le Mars, Advanced Brands in Orange City, and the last five years at the Farmers Elevator in Kingsley.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley, and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Kingsley Community Action Club (KCAC) for several years.

John was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and target practicing with his friends who shared his interest in guns. John was always willing to help anyone who was in need of help.

He is survived by his wife, Sonya; a son, Josh and a daughter, Jeana, all of rural Kingsley; his parents, Francis and Linda Hamman of Kingsley; four brothers, Tom and his wife, Holly Hamman of Moville, Kevin Hamman and his special friend, Darri Jones of Pierson, Kyle Hamman and his wife, Dawn of Lawton, and Jeffrey Hamman and his wife, Jolene of Sioux City; a sister, Shari Hamman of Omaha, Neb.; and his grandmother, Catherine Hamman of Kingsley. John is survived by his wife's parents, Donald and Lorraine Luksan of Le Mars; grandmother, Aloua Knutson of Le Mars, brothers, Donald Luksan Jr. and his wife, Marsha of Le Mars, Larry Luksan and his wife, Ann of Le Mars, and sisters, Pamela Graham of Salam, Mo., and Tanya Kuecker and her husband, Daniel of Shenandoah. Also, surviving John are several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leroy Hamman, and Lester and Esther Phippen.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley, with the Rev. Mark Stoll officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Kingsley. Visitation begins after 3 p.m. today (Tuesday), with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., with the family present 4 to 7 p.m., all at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley.

The Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley is handling funeral arrangements.
