Lorine Mulder-Kuehn, 87, of Le Mars, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars in Le Mars.

Lorine D. Kiewel was born Oct. 21, 1921, at Moscow, Idaho, the daughter of Rudolf and Selema (Kirschbaum) Kiewel. As a young girl, the family moved to Granite Falls, Minn., where she attended country school. The family moved to the Le Mars area and following the death of her mother, the family returned to Granite Falls where she later graduated from high school. In 1939, Lorine married Peter Mulder and together they farmed in the Orange City and Larchwood areas. In 1950, they moved to Flandreau, S.D. Lorine worked as a telephone operator for 20 years with Northwestern Bell at Flandreau, Sioux Falls, and Duluth, Minn.

Lorine later married Elmer Kuehn on Sept. 27, 1972, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Johnson Township, rural Merrill. Elmer and Lorine continued to live on the farm until Aug. 25, 2000, when they moved to the Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen. In 2003, Lorine moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars.

Lorine enjoyed reading, listening to Christian Radio and visiting when she was able. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Le Mars.

Survivors include her three children, Delores Nikunen and her husband John of Denver, Colo., James Mulder and his wife Darlene of Flandreau, S.D., and Peter Mulder and his wife Louise of Greenwood, Ark.; five grandchildren, Pamela Schipper, Colleen Headrick and her husband Jerome, Douglas Mulder, Michelle Lasiter and her husband Ralph, and Anthony Mulder and his wife Carla; five great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenan Kiewel of California; and several nieces and nephews.

Lorine was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolf and Selema (Kirschbaum) Kiewel; two sisters, Darcia and Valencia; a brother, Eldor Kiewel; an infant sibling at birth, and her husband, Elmer Kuehn on April 30, 2003.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jon Meredith officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Plymouth Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitations will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Pallbearers will be James Mulder, John Nikunem, Peter Mulder, Dean Varenhorst, Arlan Kuehn, Doug Mulder, and Rowden Schipper.
