Mrs. Dorothea Luss, a well known and pioneer resident of Le Mars, died at her home on Cedar Street on Friday very suddenly from heart disease. Mrs. Luss had just finished eating dinner and was sitting in a chair at the table when she fell forward and expired.

The deceased was a native of Germany. Her maiden name was Dorothea Christina Heider, and she was born in Rutenbeck, Meckenburg Schwerin, on July 29, 1836, and died in Le Mars on October 2, 1914. When a girl of seventeen she left her native land and sailed across the seas for the new land. The voyage consumed a period of eight weeks and was fraught with hardship and peril. She landed in New Orleans and from there went to St. Louis where she lived for two years. Shortly after her arrival in this country she was united in marriage to Henry Meyer, who died in a few months. In 1855 she was united in marriage to Henry Luss and some time later they moved to Henderson, Minn. Mr. Luss served his country, enlisting during the civil war. In 1880 Mrs. Luss, with her children, came to Le Mars which has been her home since. She is survived by five children, Mrs. W. Hill, of Sioux City, a daughter living in Phoenix, Arizona, another daughter in Canada, Fred Luss of this city, and Will, who is somewhere in Canada.

Mrs. Luss had been in poor health for a long time and had suffered from heart attacks at frequent intervals. She was devotedly cared for and cherished by her son, Fred, in her declining years.
