Ernestine "Ernie" Weiler, 82, of Le Mars, died unexpectedly Friday, May 27, 2005, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

The former Ernestine Mary Player was born Feb. 1, 1923, in Camden, S.C., the daughter of William and Lillie (Loyd) Player. She grew up in Philadelphia, Pa., and graduated from Hallahan Catholic High School, which was an all girls school.

On Oct. 18, 1947, Ernestine married Stanley Weiler. The couple lived at Remsen for a few years and later settled in Le Mars. Ernie had been employed for many years with Iowa Public Service in Le Mars.

Ernie was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, the Christian Mother's Society, and the Eight till Late Club.

In her younger years Ernie enjoyed bowling. She loved to shop and always enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends.

Although Mom has left us to move on to a better place, the lessons she taught us will remain with us. To honor her memory, we must always remember the importance of family and God. If we do this, she will be smiling down on us from heaven.

Mom . . . We love you and will miss you dearly!

Survivors include her husband, Stan Weiler of Le Mars; three daughters and their husbands: Florine and Murdo Smith of Naples, Fla., Peggy Owens of Austin, Texas, and Sue and Al Heuton of Gering, Neb.; a son-in-law, Larry Owens of Vancouver, Wash.; eight grandchildren: Jeff Owens, Kevin Smith, Eric Heuton, Amy Owens, Kristen Smith, Jessica Heuton, Carmen Heuton, and Cheryl Heuton; four great-grandchildren, Kobe Griffen, Brennan Owens, Donavon Keller, and Kaleb Fullerton; three sisters, Joan Mitchell and her husband, Loren, of St. Cloud, Fla., Anne Player of Freehold, N.J., and Helen O'Hara and her husband, James, of Port St. Lucy, Fla.; and three sisters-in-law: LaVonne Hart of Le Mars, Ellen Hatz and her husband Dick of Remsen, and Myrt Weiler of Oyens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Florine Stevens; two sisters-in-law, Doris Weiler and Gail Kellen; and three brothers-in-law, Duane Weiler, Allan Weiler, and Robert Kellen.

Funeral Services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Tuesday) at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.

Visitation was anytime after 3 p.m. Monday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there was a Christian Mother's rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m.
