Funeral services for Stanley E. Short, 21, Westmar College football player who died Tuesday morning, Nov. 15, at a Sioux City hospital of head injuries suffered in the Yankton-Le Mars game here Nov. 3, were at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew's E.U.B. church in Des Moines.

Westmar College students and faculty, as well as the community of Le Mars, were saddened by the death of Stan after prayerfully watching his long battle for survival since surgery was performed Nov. 6 for removal of a blood clot at St. Joseph hospital, Sioux City. He died at 7 a.m. Thursday without regaining consciousness.

Stan evidently was injured during the third period of the Yankton game here. He walked from the field and collapsed. He had been in "critical" condition since.

College students, faculty and friends filled Calvary Evangelical United Brethren church here for memorial services conducted by Rev. K. I. Clawson at 2 p.m. Friday, Dr. G. O. Thompson, college dean, delivered the message, and Dr. A. V. Howland, college vice president, read the scripture, the college choir sang.

Stan was an honor student with a philosophy major and minor in history, studying for the Christian ministry. He would have graduated at the conclusion of summer school next year.

During the three years he had attended Westmar, the Des Moines youth was active in many campus activities including the student senate, YMCA, current president of Albright Fellowship and had lettered in football and track. He played end on the football squad.

Stanley Short was born July 26, 1935, at Red Oak. He attended grade school in Des Moines and was graduated from Roosevelt high school. He had been enrolled at Drake University one semester before transferring to Westmar.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey J. Short of Des Moines; two sisters Mrs. Greta Van
Deventer of Des Moines and Mrs. Doris Williamson of Tivorton, R. I., and a brother Ronald of Des Moines.

Westmar's football game with Tarkio College, Tarkio, Mo., was cancelled Friday, Nov. 9, because of Stan's condition. The Le Mars college conceded the Central Church conference football title to Tarkio.
