LE MARS, Iowa—Bernice H. Rhoades, 85, of Fort Wayne, Ind., a former LeMars resident, died Friday, Feb. 10, 1995, at the Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with the Rev. Lynn Potter officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in LeMars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with an Order of Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rhoades was born Nov. 3, 1909, in George, the daughter of Frederick and Carolyn (Fablinger) Parkinson. She graduated from LeMars High School and Westmar College. She married Everett Rhoades May 4, 1935, in Walthill, Neb. He died July 30, 1986. She taught school at Liberty Consolidated School near Merrill and then at Avon, Pickstown and Yankton, S.D., until her retirement. She then moved to LeMars and later to Fort Wayne, where she had been a resident of the care center the last three years.
Mrs. Rhoades was a member of First Methodist Church in LeMars and a 50-year member of the OES.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Dr. Marc E. and Pauline of Yankton, S.D., and Guy and Sandy of Fort Wayne; a sister, Esther Elliott of Des Moines; a brother, George Parkinson of Toledo; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marion Parkinson and Kenneth Parkinson and a sister, Marjorie in infancy.
