Kenyon Karr, 80, of Ireton died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, Iowa, with the Rev. A. Pete Petersen officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be after noon today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Ireton.
Kenyon Karr was born Oct. 10, 1923, near Ireton, the son of John Randall and Mary Mae (Johnston) Karr. He attended rural school and graduated from Ireton High School in 1941.
He married Luella Popken on Dec. 28, 1943. The couple just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He farmed with his father and later on his own near Ireton for more than 50 years.
He served on the council of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and for more than 30 years was a trustee for Washington Township. He collected International toy tractors, pencils. He enjoyed reading and telling jokes.
He is survived by his wife, Luella; a daughter and her husband, Drenda and Lamont Onken of Sergeant Bluff and their children, Gary and Emily; a daughter and her husband, Sharyl and Stephen Hanna of Mount Prospect, Ill., and their children, Bryce and Nicole; a son and his wife, Rodney and Linda Karr of Sugar Land, Texas and their daughter, Margen; a son and his wife, Terry and Pat Karr of Hawarden, Iowa, and their children, Travis, Tracie and Landon; a daughter and her husband, Rhonda and Lawrence Wilkie of Garner, N.C.; four great-grandchildren; and a brother and his wife, Weston and Edna Karr of Le Mars, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Hollis, Leland, Thurlow and Lyman.
