REMSEN, Iowa -- Dean M. Parks, 83, of Remsen died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Le Mars, Iowa, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Dean M. Parks was born May 5, 1918, in Ashland, Ohio, to Fred and Catherine (Piernott) Parks. Dean and his mother moved to Union Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, when he was six years old. He attended country school and Union Consolidated School.

Dean was united in marriage to Marjorie Hughes in Elk Point, S.D. Dean operated Parks and Anthony Trucking and Shelling in Union Township from the late 1940s to 1965. In 1965, the family moved to Remsen and became co-owners of the Remsen Roller Mill. Dean continued in the mill until his retirement in the spring of 1983.

Dean enjoyed fishing, bowling, trap shooting, horseshoes and playing cards. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Kay and Jerry Augustine of Remsen and Pat and Dave Wingert of Remsen; a son and his wife, Tom and Carol Parks of Spencer, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Diane Harvison, Jim Augustine, Mary Westhoff, Beth Schulte, Nancy Gion, Ken Augustine, Shana Wingert, Laura Grove, Krista Berger and Carey Lake; 21 great-grandchildren; and several cousins and countless friends.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie on March 25, 1999; and a brother, Gail Parks.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Diane Harvison, Jim Augustine, Mary Westhoff, Beth Schulte, Nancy Gion, Ken Augustine, Shana Wingert, Laura Grove, Krista Berger and Carey Lake; Honorary pallbearers will be all of Dean's many friends and co-workers.
