MRS. BEN CLAGG DIES AT HOSPITAL AT AGE OF 90
Mrs. Ben (Effie M.) Clagg, 90, who had lived in LeMars since age 11, died at Floyd Valley Hospital Sunday night. She had lived at the hospital since 1968.
Mrs. Clagg, who was active throughout her life in the Baptist church, devoted her time to the care of her son, Billy, who also lives at Floyd Valley Hospital. He was stricken at age 18 months and she cared for him for 60 years.
Effie Jones, a twin, was born Aug. 17, 1881, at Independence. Her twin sister, Edna Lemon, preceded her in death.
Her husband, Benjamin T. Clagg, a former LeMars businessman, died Dec. 11, 1959. She also was preceded in death by another sister and two brothers, all of whom were active in the choir at the Baptist church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in LeMars. Rev. Robert Hanthorn will officiate and burial will be in the LeMars Memorial Cemetery under direction of the Luken-Johnson Funeral Home, LeMars.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. James (Evalyn) Hoyt, rural Remsen, the son, Billy, of LeMars, and a brother, B.B. Jones, Denham Springs, La.
Mrs. Clagg was the choir director at the First Baptist Church for 13 years and president of the Sunshine Club for 15 years.
She was president of the WCTU in LeMars for many years when that organization was active and was Sunday School superintendent for little children and a Bible teacher for a number of years.
