Richard L. Hanson

Richard L. Hanson, 64, of Security, Colo., formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, May 20, 2005, in Security.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township, rural Le Mars, Iowa, with the Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery.

Richard was born Oct. 8, 1940, in Sioux City, to Leonard and Effie (Lundborg) Hanson. He married Irene Beitelspacher on Sept. 8, 1957, in Le Mars, Iowa.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a lifetime member and past commander of the American Legion Post 38 of Security. He was a chef at the Martin Hotel in Sioux City and the Antlers Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a gunsmith for 20 years.

Survivors include his daughters, Vicki and Kent Shaiffer of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Suzanne and Bob Sibley of Durango, Colo.; two sons, Daniel and Tina Hanson of Security and David and Mila Hanson of California; three grandchildren, Rick and Sheryl Shaiffer and Katie Hanson; and his siblings, Gail and Mae Hanson, Bonnie and Ronnie Nuessle, Casey Hanson, Carol and Kenny Banister, Larry and Beverly Hanson and Karen and Carl Rogers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; his parents; and a brother, Darrell Hanson.
