Marjorie Rozell, 89, of Le Mars, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at Brookings Hospital in Brookings, S.D.
Marjorie V. Stinton was born April 24, 1919, in Plymouth County, the daughter of Everett and Lillian (Hines) Stinton. She was raised on a farm near Akron and attended county school. She would later graduate from Akron High School.
Marjorie and Alva E. Rozell were united in marriage on March 8, 1941, in South Sioux City, Neb. Following Alva's military service, the couple returned to Plymouth County and farmed near Brunsville and then near Akron. The family later moved to Le Mars. Marjorie operated a daycare in their home for several years. She was also employed by Floyd Valley Hospital in the dietary department. The family spent a few years in Englewood, Calif., and then returned to Le Mars.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. During their retirement, Marjorie and Alva enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Marjorie especially enjoyed time spent with family and friends, listening to music, and reading anything she could get her hands on.
Since moving to Brookings, S.D., in February 2007, she made many new friends and "family" at United Retirement Center.
She will be lovingly remembered by two daughters; Janice and Larry Fjeldos of Brookings, S.D., and Barbara Lubben of Johnstown, Colo.; four grandchildren, Calista and husband Shannon Crooks of Astoria, S.D., Justin Fjeldos and wife Sarah of Brookings, S.D., Alisha Lubben of Johnstown, Colo., and Bia and husband Tom Brockberg of Hardwick, Minn.; two great-grandchildren; Katelyn Crooks and Lucas Brockberg; a brother Cletus Stinton and wife Margaret of Sergeant Bluff; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alva on July 7, 2003; a daughter Jeannine Elva; a son-in-law Dean Lubben; a brother Merville; two brothers and their wives Lloyd and Sareva Stinton and Dwaine and Louise Stinton.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. The Rev. Jason Larson will officiate. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Valley (Adaville) Cemetery, rural Akron. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.
