OCCUPATION: He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He participated in the battle of Iwo Jima and the occupation of Japan. He coached basketball in Newell, Sioux City, LeMars and Webster City, Iowa, high schools, taking five teams to State Tournament play. In 1951, he was selected as the Sioux City Journal’s first basketball “Coach of the Year” while at Sioux Center. His 1964 LeMars cage team was rated No. 2 in the Des Moines Register’s final large school basketball poll. He was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Coaches Hall of Fame and the Morningside College Player’s Hall of Fame. He was the high school principal at Laurens-Marathon (Iowa) for eleven years.
SURVIVORS: include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Jill and Randall Wood of San Diego; two grandchildren, Jennifer Jones and Megan Wood; a brother and his wife, Lamar and Ruth Jones of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and two sisters and their husbands, Cleo and Allen Sipma of Hinton and Elaine and Don Oxenford of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

PLACE of BURIAL: Burial of the cremains will be in Memorial Cemetery, LeMars, Iowa
