Marian H. Riediger, 85, of Le Mars, died Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the Orange City Hospital in Orange City.

Marian Henrietta Schulz was born Nov. 27, 1922, on the family farm in Stanton, Township, rural Plymouth County, the daughter of Oscar J. and Edith M. (Finch) Schulz. Marian was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. She attended country school near her home.

Marian was united in marriage to Ralph Riediger on January 22, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Marian and Ralph farmed near Hinton for five years before moving to a farm in Marion Township. Ralph died Nov. 27, 1965. Following Ralph's death, Marian continued to live on the farm and raise her three daughters. Marian raised feeder pigs, cow-calf operation, and was a homemaker to her children. She also enjoyed gardening and embroidering.

In her later years, Marian enjoyed coming to town for morning coffee at the Pantry Café and later at Hy-Vee. She continued to live on the farm until February 2008, when she moved to Park Place Estates in Le Mars. She will be missed by family and friends.

Survivors include three children: Gloria Schrooten and her husband Rick of Le Mars, Janet Kain and her husband Chris of Broken Bow, Okla., and Carol Rice of Melvin; nine grandchildren: Shelli and her husband Chad Peters of Le Mars, Ryan Schrooten and his fiancé Ashley Fossen of Storm Lake, Joshua Kain of Dallas, Texas, Jonathan Kain of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jennifer Kain of Namibia, Africa, Michael Kain of Broken Bow, Okla., Melissa Kain, Broken Arrow, Okla., Felicia Kain, Moriety, N.M., and Lisa Rice, Sanborn; two great grandchildren, Regan and Mason Peters; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar J. and Edith M. (Finch) Schulz; husband, Ralph in November 1965; two sisters, Alvina Schumann and Marvel Riediger; two brothers, Oscar and Ronald Schulz; and a grandson, Rod Rice.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton with the Rev. Steven Stoll officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present after 5 p.m. to greet friends followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Visitations will continue Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Chad Peters, Ryan Schrooten, Bill Tentinger, Joshua Kain, Jonathan Kain, and Michael Kain.
