Arlen R. "Righty" Anderson, 75, of Le Mars, died Thursday Oct. 13, 2005, at Good Samaritan Village, Brentwood Center in Le Mars.

Arlen was born March 25, 1930, rural Spink, S.D., the son of Edward and Martha (Carlson) Anderson. He moved to the Le Mars area as a young child where he grew up. He started working for Swift & Co. packing plant in Sioux City, in 1948 where he worked until the plant closed in 1985. After the plant closed, he worked for Wells Fargo for a short time before he started working for area auto dealerships transporting new vehicles. After that he worked at the Le Mars Municipal Golf Course providing maintenance until his retirement.

Arlen served in the U.S. Army from January 1952 until January 1954 when he was honorably discharged. He served in Korea for one year during his enlistment. In 1964, he married Sharon Flammang.

He was a member of the American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars, Eagles Club 1831, and a long time member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Le Mars.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Sundt and her husband, Terry of Le Mars, and Penny Anderson and special friend, Keith Sprague of Hawarden; one son, Bill Anderson and his wife, Jamie of Merrill; eight grandchildren, Travis and Brandon Anderson, Tyler Sundt, Zachary, Cleo, Jamison and Addalyn Anderson and Pesha Handy. Also, one brother, Arden "Lefty" Anderson of Le Mars; three sisters, Doreen Johnson of Lancaster, Calif., Darleen Wilson of Osceola and Jeannie Anderson of Sacramento, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.

Arlen was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Delores Schweitzer

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial was at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars, with a military graveside service conducted by the American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 4 p.m. at the Mauer ~ Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
