Kenneth B. Harvey AKRON, Iowa - Kenneth B. "Kenny" Harvey, 75, of Akron died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Church of Christ in Akron, with the Rev. Justin May officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Mr. Harvey was born April 22, 1924, in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Orlando and Lillian (Bedard) Harvey Sr.. He served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 21, 1942, until Nov. 27, 1945. He served as a rifleman in various campaigns of the European Theater during World War II and received many awards, including the Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with three bronze battle stars, five overseas service bars, one service stripe and the good conduct medal. He married Alice R. Trometer on Feb. 8, 1946, in Sioux City. He was employed as a maintenance engineer at Akron Hospital and Care Center for more than 20 years, retiring in 1986. The couple owned and operated the Harvey Hardware Store in Akron for 11 years. He also worked for Wilcox Electric following his retirement. He was a lifelong Akron resident. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and lawncare. He was a past board member of the former Akron Hospital, First Church of Christ and Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Connie Bakker of Hawarden, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Rick and Ann-Marie of Arvada, Colo., and Michael and MaLinda of Akron; seven grandchildren, Raquel Kolker and Jessica, Amanda, Samantha, Benjamin, Aaron and Allyson Harvey; a great-grandchild; two brothers and their wives, Don and Eleanor of Akron and Orlando "Toby" Jr. and Tena of Le Mars, Iowa; two sisters, Maxine Boetger of El Paso, Texas, and Margie Clarey and her husband, Tom, of Akron; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ellen, Lois and Frances; three brothers, Glenn, William and John; and a granddaughter, Andrea. Pallbearers will be Steve Wilcox, Dave Rozell, Bob Robertson, Jim Harvey, Dean Weyen, Randy Clarey, Dustin Appley and Stan Rolfes. Charlie Wahl of Pierson, Iowa, died Tuesday; Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa
