Vincent Milton, 83, of Hinton, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab in Sioux City.

Vincent James Milton was born Dec. 19, 1924, on the family farm north of Kingsley, the son of James and Elsie (Dawson) Milton. Vince was baptized and confirmed at the Union Township Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Union Consolidated High School in 1945. Vince served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Following his discharge from the service he returned to Plymouth County.

Vince was united in marriage to Deloris Schindel on April 14, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Vince and Deloris farmed near Kingsley before moving to a farm east of Hinton where they farmed and raised livestock for 27 years.

Vince loved all animals. He later went to work for Schaff Mfg, building forklifts until the plant closed. He then went to work for Kidder-Knoepfler Chevrolet with the parts department. He retired from Knoepfler Chevrolet in 1985.

Vince enjoyed watching and playing baseball with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. He and Deloris enjoyed dancing, especially "polkas."

Vince was a 60-year-member of Trinity Lutheran Church as well as being a member of the Casper American Legion Post for more 50 years, having served as the Post Chaplain for several years.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Deloris of Hinton; two children, Coleen Kissinger and her husband Ray of Sioux City and their daughter Shanna and her husband Nick Erdmann, and Marlin Milton and his wife Pam of Hinton and their children Jake and his wife Aimee and children Reagan and Dane, Tyler, and Hayley; in-laws: Bernard Junck of Hinton, LeRoy and Ann Schindel of Yankton, S.D., Clarence and Mary Jane Schindel of Hinton, and Les and Janice Schindel of Hinton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elsie (Dawson) Milton; and two sisters, Betty Calkin and Bonnie Junck.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton, with the Rev. Steven Stoll officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Casper American Legion Post #477 of Hinton was at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations was after 4 p.m. Sunday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 5 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation continued Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers were Jake Milton, Tyler Milton, Scott Mathiason, Nick Erdmann, Tim Schindel, and Bill Schindel. Honorary pallbearers were Dane and Reagan Milton.
