Marvin D.Tillman, 82, of South Sioux City, Neb., died Wednesday June 11, 2008, at a South Sioux City care center after a long diagnosis of Parkinson's.

Marvin was born April 18, 1926, in Snyder, Neb., the son of Dewey and Elsie (Renter) Tillman. He was raised in Hooper, Neb., and graduated from Hooper High School in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the World War II European Theater and was a survivor of the Battle of The Bulge.

After his discharge, he was employed with Northern Natural Gas Company at Hooper, Neb. He later was transferred to the South Sioux City office where he served as a measurement technician. He was employed at Northern Natural Gas/Enron for 40 years.

He married Lorraine B. Sharon on Sept. 2, 1951, in the First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church and served on the church board for six years. He was a Mason, a member of Omadi Lodge, Abu Bekr Shrine, American Legion and the Rotary Club. He was an assistant Boy Scout Leader of First Lutheran Church and a Rainbow Dad in the Lynn Broyhill Assembly for three years. He served on the South Sioux City Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years.

After his retirement the couple wintered in Mesa, Ariz., for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife Lorraine; two children: a daughter Nancy Tillman of Palmdale, Calif., and a son Gary and his wife Elaine of Le Mars; four grandchildren: Michelle, Jacob and his wife Bethany, Scott and David, and two great-grandchildren: Tyler and Grace.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Jean Peterson of Fremont, Neb.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City with the Rev. Randy Rasmussen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation at Becker - Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today (Friday) with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Jacob, Scott and David Tillman, Milt Peters, Keith Rector and LeRoy Stark.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the First Lutheran Church Window Project.
