Beverly Ann Smid, 75, of Le Mars and formerly of Oyens, , died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Beverly Ann Smid was born July 3, 1932, at Merrill, the daughter of Stewart and Evelyn (Blankenberg) Seymour. Beverly was raised in the Hinton area and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1951. She also spent a good portion of her early years in the Sioux Falls, S.D., area. On May 21, 1951 she married Donald L. Smid at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. They moved to Alameda, Calif., until Don's discharge from the Navy in 1955, then lived in Le Mars for a few years. In 1957 they moved to Oyens. Don died Aug. 19, 1991 and Bev moved back to Le Mars in 1993 and had been residing in the Floyd Valley Apartments ever since.

She was a long-time member of St. Catherine Catholic Church and church Guild in Oyens and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. She helped with the hot lunch program at St. Catherine Catholic School in Oyens.

Besides being a loving mother and wife, she was an Eagles Club member since 1962 and was involved in the Legion Club, both of Le Mars. She was very active in many card clubs, loved to bake and make crafts. She thoroughly enjoyed the company of her many friends in the Oyens, Remsen and Le Mars area.

In Bev and Don's 40 years of marriage, they raised seven children.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth of Des Moines and Stephen and his wife Susan of Sioux City; four daughters, Susan Peterson of Oklahoma City, Okla., Theresa Jozens of Surprise, Ariz., Donna and her husband Scott Poulsen of Oyens, Kate and her husband Brian Feeney of Le Mars; a daughter-in-law, Sue and her husband Ron Theisen of Remsen; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Tim; one brother, James Seymour; and two sisters, Carol Dubbe and Marlene Mikkelson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Oyens with the Rev. Eugene Murray officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery at Oyens. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Casket bearers will be Tim and Ian Smid, Jacob Kohler, Nathan and Ryan Vander Molen, Bob and Randy Gengler, Craig Christman.
