HINTON PIONEER DIES AT BEAVER CITY, NEB.
Dietrich Winter, son of John and Regine Winter, was born June 24, 1875, east of Hinton, with postoffice address James, Ia., at that time, before Hinton had a postoffice. He died of a heart attack June 27, 1945, at the age of 70 years and three days, while fishing at the Beaver Creek which adjoins his farm.
He was a resident here in the early eighties and had been a long time resident at Beaver City. As a youth he became a member of the German Lutheran Church at Hinton. About 1885, he with his parents, moved to Furnas county and homesteaded four miles east of Beaver City. After his parents retired he with his brother, John, managed the farm until about 1925 when the former moved to Beaver City with his family. He was united in marriage August 19, 1917, to Frieda Mehner and to this union one daughter was born.
The deceased was a fine character, honest and upright and a man of his word. He was very conscientious about his work, often denying himself pleasures to accomplish his purpose.
Besides his wife he leaves one daughter, Mrs. Merle Hunt, of Killeen, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. T.F. Newton of Omaha, and Mrs. Elizabeth Marier, of Beaver City; two brothers, John, who resides on the home place, and Philip of Long Beach, Cal.; a grandson, Terry Newton, and a host of friends to mourn his loss. A brother, Henry, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, July 1, at the Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev. H.J. Baerg, pastor of the Grace Brethren Church. Burial was made in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
