William A. Lamoureux

William A. Lamoureux, rural Akron (Ruble), Iowa, died Wednesday, October 17, 1990, in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Lamoureux was born December 26, 1911, in Akron to Edward and Amelia (Rush) Lamoureux. He attended school in Akron. He worked on various ranches in Wyoming and Montana and later worked as a crewman on Missouri River barges.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 90th Infantry Division at Normandy and across France and Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and was discharged with the Rank of Staff Sergeant in 1945.

He married Ruth a Marbach on January 24, 1946. They farmed near Merrill until 1965, when they bought the Ruble Store and operated it until his retirement in 1986. Ruth died on June 10, 1989. Mr. Lamoureux was a standing member of Oleson-Halweg Post 125, American Legion at Merrill and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Ellendale.

Survivors include a son, Thomas W. and daughter-in-law, Rosa, of Cerritos, California; a daughter Mary H. L. and son-in-law Lynn Hovland, of West Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jennifer L. and Andrew I. Lamoureux and Collette A. Lamoureux and a step-granddaughter, Tatiana L. Armstrong; a former daughter-in-law, Candice Greenwood of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Two sisters, Mrs. Edna Latham of Akron, Iowa; and Mrs. Madelyn Bay, of Glenwood, Minnesota, and a brother, Walter, of Chappell, Nebraska.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Eva and Ella; and seven brothers, Nap, Charlie, Leonard, Clifford, Milford, Lovay and Loyd.
