Max L. Puttmann, 86, of Kingsley, died Saturday, June 9, 2007, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Max Louis Puttmann was born Oct. 7, 1920, at Pierson, the son of Bill and Viola (Huss) Puttmann. He received his education at Pierson Public Schools and various country schools in Plymouth County. Max married Frieda Rosenmerkle on April 14, 1941 and they farmed together in the Le Mars and Lawton, area until her death on April 17, 1978. This union was blessed with five children.

On July 3, 1979, Max married Marilyn Wempe. The couple made their home in Kingsley.

Max was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton. He was a lifelong farmer and was very accomplished with agriculture. Max was also a Master Gardener.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn of Kingsley; five children Sandra (Wilbur) Larson of South Sioux City, Neb., Gary (Kay) Puttmann of Sioux Center, Brenda (Marvin) Holtz of Moville, Marilyn (Dave) Judish of Moville, and David (Janet) Puttmann of Golden, Colo.; five step-children, Janice (Art) Jones, Jeffrey (Lori) McKenzie, Tom (Laurel) Wempe, Rob (Susan) Wempe and Patrick (Tricia) Wempe; nine grandchildren, Roxanne Peters, Curtis Holtz, Linda Swanson, Brent Larson, Todd Puttmann, Shawn Puttmann, Shannon Puttmann, Kristie Amick, and Jennifer Cunningham; 14 step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joyce Gollhofer of Aurora, Colo., and Connie Anderson of North Sioux City, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Frieda; and brothers Randy, Bill and Stanley.

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton,. The Rev. Bruce Jackson will officiate. Burial will follow at the Kingsley Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial at St. Michael's Catholic Church Parish Hall in Kingsley. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Rohde - Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. The family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service set for 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.
