Alice L. Grinstead, 78, of Le Mars, a longtime resident of Amarillo, Texas and former New London, Iowa resident, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, in Le Mars.

The former Alice L. McElhaney was born Nov. 26, 1928, in Burlington, the daughter of Edward Everet and Bertha Altha (Gray) McElhaney.

She was a graduate of Burlington High School and Burlington Business College. On Feb. 4, 1950, she married Herbert Edward Grinstead in Burlington. She had been employed at Sylvania, New London Community Schools, New London Bank and GCR-Firestone.

She was a member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church in Amarillo, Texas, and a former member of New London United Methodist Church. She was a 50-year member of the New London Chapter 440 O.E.S.

She enjoyed family, friends, reading, pets, and special friends in Texas.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert Edward Grinstead of Le Mars; a son and his wife, Ray and Lois Grinstead of Le Mars; two grandchildren, Jill and her husband, Brian Gilmore, and Jeff Grinstead and his fiancée Meliddaa Ward; and two sisters, Jane Brady of Tucson, Ariz., and Elsie Rupprecht of Albuquerque, N.M.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother David McElhaney; and two sisters, Ethel McElhaney and Mary Black.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Chapel in New London, with Pastor Dot Hasler officiating. Eastern Star services will be presented by New London Chapter 440 during the funeral service. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery at New London. The family will receive friends at Elliott Chapel from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday.

A memorial fund has been established.
