Edwin Henrich, 93, of Le Mars, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007 at the Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Edwin F. Henrich was born Jan. 11, 1914, at Le Mars, the son of Martin and Katie (Konrady) Henrich. He was raised on the family farm three miles northwest of Le Mars. He attended St. Joseph's School in Le Mars. At the age of 16, his father died, and Edwin took over the responsibilities of the family farm.

Edwin was united in marriage to Arlyne Binneboese on Feb. 8, 1937, in Le Mars. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in February 2007.

Ed was the embodiment of the self-made man. Most of what he knew, he learned through experience. Ed was innovative and willing to take risks to pursue what he valued. As a young man, he was an accomplished boxer. He loved the outdoors; especially fishing, hunting and trapshooting. Most of all, Ed will be remembered as a man of faith and fidelity, loyal to his family and friends; a man of great courage and conviction.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Arlyne of Le Mars; his children: a son, Vernon and his wife Phyllis of Missouri Vally, and their children Michael Henrich and his wife Andrea of Omaha, Neb., and Dr. Douglas Henrich and his wife Jill of Burlington; a daughter, Christa Henrich of Winfield, Ill.; a daughter, Judy Green and her husband Wendell of Yuba City, Calif., and their daughter Monica Reyna and her husband Christopher of Yuba City, Calif.; a son David Henrich of Red Oak and his children Melissa Culver and Michelle Henrich all of Red Oak, Melanie Henrich of Omaha, Neb., and Matthew Henrich of Boulder, Colo.; and a son Dennis Henrich and his wife Barb of Le Mars and their children Kelly Reitzler and her husband Spencer of Williamsburg, Tod Henrich and his wife Noel of Le Mars and Sarah Henrich of Davenport; nine great-grandchildren and several cousins.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; Martin and Katie (Konrady) Henrich; six brothers: Fred, John, Martin, Alvin, Leo, and Paul Henrich; five sisters: Josephine Deiterman, Irene Kallsen, Catherine Topf, Mary Friend, and Dorothy Thorpe; and an infant son Douglas Henrich.

Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Interment was in the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday, followed by a 4 p.m. Scriptural wake service at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation continued at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Pallbearers were Michael Henrich, Douglas Henrich, Monica Reyna, Melissa Culver, Matthew Henrich, and Jim Henrich.
