Marguerite J. Paulson

Marguerite L. Paulson, 100, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008, at her residence.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery, followed by memorial services at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Paulson was born on Dec. 31, 1907, in rural Holstein, Iowa, the daughter of John A. and Florence (Doebler) LeMoine. At age 4, she moved with her family to rural Cherokee County, Pierson, Iowa. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) for two years. She taught rural school for seven years in Cherokee and Plymouth counties. She attended National Business School in Sioux City and became a secretary/bookkeeper.

She married Albert N. Paulson in Kingsley, Iowa, on June 12, 1937. The couple moved to Sioux City, and Mrs. Paulson worked part time for J.C. Penney's Co. She ran a child care center in the Riverside area during World War II. Later, she worked for a law firm part time and then took a position as a secretary and substitute teacher for Sioux City Community Schools, retiring in 1973 after 14 years with the school system.

Mrs. Paulson was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was active in United Methodist Women and served as treasurer and in other activities. She was a former member of Riverside United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Christian Education and the Women's Society. She was a member of Sioux City Women's Club, a charter member of Silver Chapter O.E.S. 548, a former member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary and a member of Sioux City Retired Educators.

Survivors include her husband, Albert; a son, Stephen L. Paulson Sr. and his wife, Jeana, and a daughter, Virginia M. Taylor and her husband, George, all of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Stephen L. Paulson Jr., Suzanne Johme, Lisa Dykeman, John and Freeman Paulson, Jeffrey (Kimberly), James (Toni) and Jason Taylor; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; and two special caregivers, Marian and Freda.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Martin, Ralph, Francis and Kenneth LeMoine; a sister, Mildred Timmins; a daughter-in-law, Joanne; a granddaughter, Sara Taylor; and a great-granddaughter, Whitney Johme.
