Christine Winterfeld, 91, of Remsen, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Christine Winterfeld was born Dec. 31, 1915, at rural Remsen, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Clemens) Molitor. Chris was the oldest of 10 children. When she was a young child, she moved with her family to a farm near Ashton, and attended St. Mary's Academy in Alton, through the eighth grade. She then worked in grocery stores until she married Arthur C. Winterfeld in 1944 at Ashton. The couple farmed near Craig and Adrian, Minn., until Arthur's death in 1956. Chris then moved to Le Mars, IA, and worked in grocery stores until she opened the Four Seasons Café there in 1962. Her homemade soup and homemade pies were especially popular with her loyal customers. In 1975, she sold the café and returned to working in grocery stores, until she retired in 1980. She moved to Remsen in 2001 and had been a resident of Happy Siesta since 2004.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen.

Survivors include one daughter, Judy and her husband Jim Stokesberry of Remsen; one ganddaughter, Amy and her husband Gerard Schneider of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; one grandson, Mark Stokesberry of Cedar Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Julia Schneider both of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; three brothers and their wives, John and Eileen Molitor of Ruthven, Ernest and Alvina Molitor of Floyd, Dale and Jane Molitor of Worthington, Minn.; one sister, Theresa and her husband Marvin Dammann of Little Rock; two sisters-in-law, Theresa Molitor of Brewster, Minn., and Rose Molitor of Pisgah; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Anna Marie Penning, and four brothers, Clarence, Charles, Milo and Don Molitor.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Revs. William McCarthy and Richard Ball officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m.. all at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Casketbearers will be Melvin, Paul and Glenn Molitor, MIke Dammann, Lee Nilles and Jerry Hale.
