Violetta L. Bollmeyer, 98, of Hinton, passed away peacefully Friday Oct. 19, 2007, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

The former Violetta Louise Kasch was born Oct. 1, 1909, in McCausland, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Martha Kasch. She graduated from Oto High School. After graduation she attended Morningside College in Sioux City where she earned her Teaching Certificate. She taught at Miller #7 Country School in 1929.

She married Edwin Bollmeyer on Dec. 4, 1929. They moved to the farm in 1930 where they began their farming careers. While on the Farm "Grandma Vi" enjoyed baking home made bread, making milk and dumplings, quilting, crocheting, gardening and playing in her many card clubs. She was an active member in the Church, Ladies Aide and Senior Citizens. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She also enjoyed many fishing trips to Minnesota.

She had a great sense of humor about life, including making raw hamburger and onion sandwiches, horseradish greens, and bread and butter pickles. She also enjoyed making blankets for all of her grandchildren. Grandma Vi was the neighborhood cook for all of the wild game caught during hunting season.

She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and she will be dearly missed by all.

Survivors include her two sons: Eldo Bollmeyer and his wife Midge and Everett Bollmeyer and his special friend Karen, all of Hinton; seven grandchildren: Dennis (Judy) Bollmeyer, Cindy (Bill) Kallsen, Lance (Rachel) Bollmeyer, Vickie (Joe) Krapfl, all of Hinton, Eldo, Jr. of Biloxi Miss., Dean (Judy) Bollmeyer of Bush, La., and Kathy Bollmeyer of Hinton; 31 great grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin; her parents; a brother Clarence Kasch; a daughter-in-law Betty Bollmeyer; and many brothers and sisters-in-law.

Funeral Services were at 10 a.m. today (Monday) at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton, with the Rev. Kenneth Schmidt officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was after 3 p.m. Sunday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there was a prayer service at 7 p.m. There was also visitation on Monday morning at Trinity Lutheran Church for one hour prior to the funeral.
