Terry Dean Fletcher, 60, of Kingsley, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at his home following a lengthy illness.

Terry Dean Fletcher was born Jan. 10, 1948, in Kingsley, the son of Herbert Dean and Bonnie (White) Fletcher. He graduated from Kingsley-Pierson High School in 1966. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He fought in the Tet Offensive and was wounded during combat. He received his Purple Heart and honorable discharge and returned home to Kingsley.

On April 25, 1969, Terry and Barbara Althaus were united in marriage at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Correctionville. In 1978 Terry began his career with MidAmerican Energy Company at Port Neal, south of Sioux City. He was a unit operator before his health forced him to retire early.

Terry was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. His favorite activities included cooking, yard work and golfing. He was proud to have been selected by his friends as the "Brookside Club Pro." Most of all Terry was very proud of his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Barbara of Kingsley; a son, Travis Fletcher of Kingsley; a daughter, Sherri DeJoode and her husband Chad of Pleasantville; three grandchildren Hanna, Abby, and Jake DeJoode; a sister, Deanna (Brad) Grabe of Barnesville, Minn.; brother Danny Fletcher of Sioux City; sister-in-law Barb Althaus of Des Moines; brothers-in-law Verdel Humburg of Minnesota, David (Diane) Althaus of Sioux Rapids, Richard (Patsy) Althaus of California, Gary (Tracy) of Sioux City, Donald Althaus of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Marilyn Humburg; mother and father-in-law Herbert and Florence Althaus; and a brother-in-law James Althaus.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Correctionville. The Rev. Bert Burwell will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date. Visitation with the family will begin one hour prior to the service on Monday.
