David R. West
AKRON, Iowa -- David R. West, 55, of rural Akron passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Westfield Community Room in Westfield, Iowa, with Pastor Steve Jewett of New Horizons United Church of Christ in Akron officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Sunday at the Community Room, and will continue following the service. Carlsen Funeral Home-Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements.
David Robert West was born Jan. 31, 1952, in Sioux City, the son of John and Hazel (Stanfield) West. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. He attended Sioux City public schools until entering the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1972.
He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Smith on Jan. 1, 1972, in Sioux City. In 1974, they moved to rural Akron, where they made their home the past 33 years. David worked at the Sioux City Stockyards for more than 20 years. He was a school bus driver for Akron Westfield for 10 years. He also farmed several years with his good friends and neighbors, the Nystrups. He was currently working as a delivery truck driver for Timber Roots in Hawarden, Iowa.
He was a member of New Horizons United Church of Christ in Akron. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the country by car looking at beautiful scenery. He loved visiting his relatives when they were camping and having supper with them. But most all, David loved the times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, Jack and Carly. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of more than 35 years, Betty Lou of Akron; a daughter, Samantha West and Dallas Anderson of Witten, S.D.; a son, Joseph West and Gina Lamp of Akron; his grandchildren, Jack Hadley Anderson and Carly Mae West; his mother, Hazel West of Waterloo, Iowa; a sister, Barbara Wagner of Waterloo, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John West; and his grandparents, Samuel and Mathilda West and Joseph and Emma Stanfield.
