Elizabeth "Betty" Wolbers, 72, of Le Mars died on Thursday November 1, 2007 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, following a brief battle with cancer.

The former Elizabeth Rolfes was born March 15, 1935 at Le Mars, IA, the daughter of Joe and Rose (Langel) Rolfes. She grew up on a farm south of Le Mars and attended St. Joseph's Catholic School, graduating with the last graduating class of St. Joseph's High School in 1953. Betty married Dwight J. Wolbers on September 6, 1956 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. Following their marriage the couple lived in Le Mars for a short time before moving to Melborne and then Sioux City. They returned to Le Mars in 1961. For many years she worked with her husband Dwight operating as Le Mars Transfer. In the fall of 1987, she started working with Floyd Valley Hospital with their housekeeping department. Betty worked for 16 years at the hospital retiring in the fall of 2003. Her husband Dwight died in February of 2000.

Betty was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Christian Mothers Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She also belonged to the weekly study group at St. Joseph's. She also was a volunteer at Floyd Valley Hospital and the Meals on Wheels program and was a Peer person. She was also a member of the Knitting Club for 45 years, although she never completed a knitting project.

She enjoyed coffee with friends and attending daily Mass. She was very kind hearted and loving and will be remembered for her sense of humor.

Survivors include three daughters: Julie Wolbers of Clinton, Pat Pattison of Sioux City and her special friend Dave Swearingen and Lori McMillan and her husband Phil of Le Mars; five grandchildren: Jennifer Lahn and her husband Elliot of Kansas City, KS, Sarah Pattison and her fiance Brady Barthole of Ames, Andy Pattison and Amy Pattison, both of Sioux City and Grant McMillan of Le Mars; nine brothers and sisters: Al (Kitty) Rolfes of Des Moines, Ann (Evon) Puetz of Le Mars, Wally (Theresa) Rolfes of Merrill, Esther (Ron) Kurth of Primghar, Jeanne (Norbert) Schmitz of Curie, MN, Rosie Sitzmann of Kingsley, Lois (Paul) Woll of Worthington, MN, Don (Mona) Wolbers of Bettendorf and Bill Von Waaden of San Jose, CA; and many wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dwight Wolbers; and three sisters: Leona Schmitz, Rosella Rolfes and Florence Rolfes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday November 5, 2007 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with Reverend James Tigges presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.

Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Sunday at St. James Church, where there will be a combined rosary by the Parish, the Christian Mothers Society and the Catholic Daughters of America at 4:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be on Monday morning at the Church for one hour prior to the Mass.

The Feuerstein Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
