Margaret Jean Covert, 74, of Parker, S.D., died Monday Dec. 24, 2007, at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg, S.D.

The former Margaret Jean Bauler was born July 22, 1933, at Le Mars, the daughter of Herman C. and Margaret B. (Murray) Bauler. She grew up in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Central High School. While still in high school, Margaret started working with the telephone company. She married Jerry D. Covert on Oct. 22, 1951, in Las Vegas, N.M. They lived in New Mexico for several years and she continued to work with the telephone company while they were there. Later on they moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., to be closer to family. Her husband Jerry died in 1988.

She married Leonard Black in August 1990 at Denver, Colo. They lived in Denver, Rapid City, S.D., and Sioux Falls. Margaret retired from Quest Telephone Company after 25 years of service. Leonard died June 10, 1999. After his death Margaret moved to Parker, S.D., and had resided there since.

Survivors include six children: Terry Covert and his wife Wanda of Liberal, Kan., Melvin Covert of Denver, Colo., Yvonne Lopez and her husband Sam of Mora, N.M., Mike Covert and his wife Becky of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jim Covert and his fiancé Deana of Lincoln, Neb., and Randy Covert and his wife Dawn of Parker, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three siblings: Zelda Sherlock and her husband Ray of Merrill, Barbara Bornholtz of Buffalo, Wyo., and Charles Bauler and his wife Sandy of Rock Valley; a step-sister Rosemary Sams of Omaha, Neb.; a sister-in-law Lorene Wiseman of Grand Junction, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars will be after 3 p.m. Friday, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church Saturday before the funeral.
