Mildred P. Lembcke, 94, of Hinton, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Mildred Pauline Jauer was born Dec. 1, 1913, on the family farm east of Hinton, the daughter of Albert and Julia (Westbury) Jauer. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. Mildred attended country school in Hungerford Township and graduated from Hinton High School in 1932.

On June 27, 1934 Mildred and Clarence Lembcke were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church. Mildred helped form and manage the school lunch program for the Hinton School District in 1950. She held that position for 10 years. In 1960, Mildred began working for Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Sioux City as their first food service manager. She later became the assistant dietician. She had worked for the nursing home until her retirement in 1979. Mildred spent the last year at Northern Hills Assisted Living in Sioux City.

Mildred was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies' Aid, Circle, and the Lamplighters. During her retirement years, Mildred enjoyed cooking and baking for relatives and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting afghans as well as gardening.

Survivors include her son Jerry Lembcke and his wife Carolyn of Worcester, Mass.; a granddaughter Molly Del Howe-Lembcke of Worcester, Mass.; a brother Glenn Jauer and his wife Dollie of Hinton; a sister Jean Israel and her husband John of Loveland, Colo.; three nieces who Mildred and Clarence helped raise, Loraine Schumacher of Bay City, Mich., Mary Lou Fisher of Baltimore, Md., and Carol Malloy of Galveston, Texas; and a family friend and caretaker Patti Leonard of Climbing Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence in 1968; daughter Judy Gange in 1999; and two sisters Betty Jauer and Lois Schultz.

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. The Rev. Kenneth A. Schmidt will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. toda (Thursday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.
