Laura E. Wheeler, 96, of Kingsley, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at her home.

Laura E. Wheeler was born April 12, 1911, at Loveland, Colo., the daughter of Frank and Laura Trent. She graduated from high school at Clinton, Missouri in May of 1928.

On Nov. 18, 1931, Laura and Jesse Alvin Wheeler were united in marriage in Warrensburg, Mo. They moved to Iowa in 1932 and farmed in Union Township, Plymouth County until 1969. Laura and Jess moved to Kingsley and Laura worked as a seamstress for many years. Jess died April 15, 1999.

Laura will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Joan Schnepf and her husband Karl of Le Mars, and Dixie Engel and her husband Bill of Orange City; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jess; and a great-grandchild.

A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kingsley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Kurtenbach officiating. A private family burial will take place at the Kingsley Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Visitation and viewing will begin at 2 p.m. today (Friday) and the Johnson - Earnest Funeral Home of Kingsley. The family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service on Saturday.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carel Connor, Gerald Connor, Faye Ray, Clarice Bainbridge, Marjorie McLarty, Sue Schwartz and Viola Kasner.

Pallbearers will be Brad Engel, Joe Hlas, George Schnepf, Joe Schnepf, Joe Schwartz, Rick Schiltz, and Jack Swanberg.
