Dollie M. Bonnema, 83, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Dollie Mae Bonnema was born Oct. 13, 1924, near Westfield, the daughter of Sidney and Hattie Wynia. She attended Ridge Country School near her home.

On Jan. 23, 1946, Dollie and Harry Henry Bonnema Jr. were united in marriage at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Throughout the years Dollie worked as a seamstress at Aalfs Manufacturing, Jo-Nee Manufacturing and the Plymouth County Historical Museum in Le Mars and K-Products in Orange City. Harry died on April 19, 1998. Dollie remained in Le Mars and later moved to the Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, on Feb. 8, 2002.

Dollie was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, but most of all, flower gardening. Dollie and Harry enjoyed activities with the Pioneer Machinery Club and attending threshing and tractor shows.

Dollie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Janice Gauwain and her husband Gary of Newberry Park, Calif.; two grandsons Andrew and Laila Strawder and Robert Strawder, and a great-granddaughter Noora Strawder, all of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister Clara Wall of Fredericksburg; sisters-in-law Joan Bonnema of Orange City, Mary Bonnema of Chandler, Ariz., and Evelyn Ludwigs of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews including a special niece Betty Pedersen and her husband Ron of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harry; three brothers Ray, Melvin and Frank Wynia; and three sisters Marie Meredith, Helen Ahrens and Bertha Wiese.

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Gary Landsness will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church on Friday prior to the funeral service.
