MARCUS, Iowa -- Jessica Hammond, 35, of Marcus died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., following a lengthy battle with juvenile diabetes.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus, Neb., with Brother Pat Kelly officiating. Private family interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services Monday, with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m., at the funeral home.

Jessica Leigh Hammond was born Dec. 16, 1972, in Columbus, Neb., to Michael and Phyllis (Crosier) Case. She attended grade school in Columbus before moving to North Platte, Neb., in 1982. In 1985, the family moved back to Columbus.

On July 6, 1992, Jessica was united in marriage to Tom Hammond in Columbus. The couple lived in Platte Center, Neb., until 2001, when they moved to Wakefield, Neb. In 2004, they moved to Marcus, Iowa, where they were currently living. While living in the Columbus area, Jessica worked at Taco John's for many years. She attended Western Iowa Tech. in Sioux City, where she received her medical records training. Jessica was currently working as a medical records specialist at Orange City Health Clinic in Orange City, Iowa.

She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Jessica enjoyed reading, traveling, camping, collecting items related to wolves, and especially loved her time with her children and family.

Jessica is survived by her husband, Tom Hammond of Marcus; a daughter, Michaela Hammond of Marcus; a son, Jared Hammond of Marcus; her parents, Michael and Phyllis Case of South Sioux City; two brothers, Jeff (Lisa) Case of Sioux City, and Justin Case of Boise, Idaho; a sister, Jennifer (David) Callender of Sioux City; her father-in-law and his wife, Tom and Patty Hammond of Columbus, Neb.; sister-in-law, Sue Gilsdorf of Humphrey, Neb.; her grandfather, Glen Crosier of North Platte, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Verne and Christine Case; grandmother, Georgia Crosier; and her mother-in-law, Connie Hammond.

Memorials are suggested to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
