Frances Hansen, 87, of Remsen, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Village of Le Mars.

Frances Helen Weinrich was born March 15, 1919, at Hinton, the daughter of Ora and Bessie (Thompson) Weinrich. She attended school at Hinton. Frances was united in marriage to Ervin Hansen on Sept. 9, 1934, at Elk Point, S.D. The couple farmed in the Remsen area for many years. Frances worked as a cook at Archie's Waeside for many years during the 1950s and 60s. She was also well-known throughout the area for baking and decorating wedding cakes. Frances also enjoyed doing crafts at home for family and friends. Frances and Ervin enjoyed spending the winter months in Texas.

She was a long time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Remsen where she was active in the quilting group and OWLS card club. Ervin died in 1996.

Survivors include four children, Larry Hansen and his wife Kay of Remsen, Donald Hansen and his wife Marianne of Le Mars, Darlene Albers and her husband Jerry of Onawa, and Debbie Harte and Ron Purcio of Redstone, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley McKim and her husband Bob of Omaha, Neb., and Dorothy McKay and her husband Joe of Windsor, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband Ervin and six brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitations with the family present will be after 4 p.m. today (Thursday) at St. Paul's Lutheran Church followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue Friday morning from 10 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Michael Hansen, Scott Hansen, Todd Albers, David Albers, Michael Harte, Steve Bolton, and Calvin Slota.
