PETER HAMES DIES ON WAY TO VISIT CRITICALLY
SICK WIFE

SHE DIES NOT KNOWING SPOUSE HAD PRECEDED
HER

Peter Hames, 71, longtime Plymouth county resident, died suddenly at the Sacred Heart hospital here on Saturday night, as he was about to visit his wife there after she had become critically sick.

Mrs. Hames died Sunday afternoon, without knowing her husband had passed away. Mrs. Hames had been confined at the hospital for eight days following a heart attack. Mr. Hames death was attributed to a heart attack. He had gone to the hospital and had taken the elevator to the second floor when he suddenly collapsed. Mr. Hames had been in failing health due to a diabetic condition for many years.

The former Margaret Reisch and Peter Hames were married February 4, 1913, in LeMars. They farmed near here until they retired and moved to LeMars in 1938. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hames were born in Luxemberg, Germany. He was born June 23, 1883, and she on April 28, 1880.

Double funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 24, 1954, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic church. Msgr. J. D. Fisch will officiate at last rites and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery here, under direction of the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, Anthony P. Hames of LeMars and Nicholas of Crystal Lake, Illinois; two daughters, Mrs. Michael Mulhalley of LeMars and Mrs. Harold Cowan of Norwalk, California; Mr. Hames is survived by a brother, Anton Hames of Crofton, Nebraska and Frank Hames in Luxemberg. Mrs. Hames is survived by one brother, Nick Reisch of Howard, South Dakota, and three sisters, Mrs. Garrit DeBlau and Mrs. Anton Hames of Crofton, Nebraska and Mrs. Will Roth of Gettes, South Dakota. There are nineteen surviving grandchildren.

Mr. Hames was a member of the Knights of Columbus, trinity council. The rosary will be recited Monday at 8:30 p.m. by that council. Mrs. Hames was a member of the Christian Mothers Society, the third order of St. Francis and the Catholic Daughters of America. The Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where friends may call until service time.
