LE MARS, Iowa -- LeRoy "Roy" Welter, 82, of Le Mars died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars with military honors provided by Wasmer Post 241 of the American Legion. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Sunday at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

LeRoy George Welter was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of George and Dora (Ruppert) Welter. He grew up in the Oyens, Iowa, and Le Mars area and was a lifelong Plymouth County resident.

LeRoy married Rose Hoffman in 1939. He then served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippine Islands. When he returned after his service, Roy was employed for many years with Moore Lumber Co. in Le Mars. In 1960, he went to work for Wells' Dairy in Le Mars, until his retirement. His wife, Rose, died on June 17, 1994.

In his retirement years, Roy enjoyed the outdoors and spent his time repairing lawn mowers.

Survivors include his five children, Janet Eckart and her husband, Joe, of Omaha, Neb., Mary Vondrak and her husband, Richard, of Sioux City, Karen Eaton and her husband, Denny, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mike Welter and his wife, Marilyn, of Sioux City and Ron Welter of Sioux City; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Arnold Welter of Carroll, Iowa; and a sister, Marian Ruehlen of Odessa, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rose; and two brothers, Norbert and Sylvester Welter.
