HEART ATTACK FATAL TO FORMER LOCAL RESIDENT
Rites Held Monday At Plymouth Church For Cloyde Gabel
A former well-known resident of southwest Plymouth county in the Merrill vicinity, Cloyde Gabel, 52, of Fountain Valley, Calif., died Tuesday, October 10, of an unexpected heart attack at the El Toro airbase near Santa Ana, Newport Beach. He moved to California seven and a half years ago.
Mr. Gabel was born April 25, 1915, near Merrill, Ia., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George N. Gabel. He was a graduate of LeMars high school.
He was married July 27, 1936 to Janet Adams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vinton G. Adams, of Akron, at Plymouth Presbyterian church near Brunsville.
He was active in the Masonic orders in Akron and the Consistory in Sioux City and an elder in Plymouth Presbyterian Church.
Survivors are his wife, Janet of Fountain Valley; a son, Keith of Long Beach; a daughter, Mrs. James (Janice) Down, of Fort Ord, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Lester (Verna) Herman and Mrs. Milton (Vera) Atkinson, both of Merrill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Plymouth Presbyterian church. Rev. Charles Kruse officiating and burial was in Plymouth Presbyterian church cemetery.
