Mildred Lee (Wise) Helin, 85, of Hurricane, Utah, formerly of Sioux City and McCook Lake, S.D., died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at a nursing home in Saint George, Utah, following a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Plymouth Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, with the Rev. Rayann B. Cummings of Mayflower Congregational Church officiating. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel in Sioux City.
Mrs. Helin was born April 24, 1917, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Vance and Hannah (McInnis) Wise. She moved to Sioux City in 1929. She lived in Sioux City until the 1970s, when she moved to McCook Lake. She moved to Hurricane in 1997. She was a waitress at several Sioux City restaurants.
She was a member of McCook Lake United Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include a brother and his wife, Bill and Alice Weisenburger of Fairfax, Va.; a sister, Marguerite Nathlich of Sioux City; a grandson, Dean Wilder; a granddaughter, Debra; a great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Vance Wise; her mother and stepfather, Hannah and David Weisenburger; a son, Charles Wilder; and three sisters, Dorothy Maynard, Betty Jean Baker and Lillian Sabasta.
