Maj. Locer, 58, dies in Texas army hospital
Harvey Locer, 58, retired U.S. army major, died Tuesday in the army hospital at F. Sam Houston, San Antonio, Tex. He had been in failing health for about a year.
Funeral services will be held Friday at F. Sam Houston national cemetery with full military honors.
Rosary will be recited at Zizik-Kern-Downing-McClaughert funeral chapel, 1332 No. St. Mary, San Antonio, Thursday evening.
Maj. Locer was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. O. Locer of LeMars.
Mr. Locer was born Nov. 9, 1912, in LeMars. His marriage to Leona Ludwig of Remsen took place Nov. 18, 1940, at Remsen.
Maj. Locer was an original member of Co. K of the National Guard of LeMars and began his active duty when the company was activated at the beginning of world war 2. He served 31 years in the army.
Surviving are his wife of 143 Seaford drive, San Antonio; two daughters, Mary and Ann, both at home; and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Tone and Mrs. Lois Jimenez, both of LeMars.

Relatives attending the funeral in San Antonio, Tex., of Maj. Harvey W. Locer, 58, retired, were Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Burlage and LeeAnn and Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Ludwig, Elkton, S.D.
Paul Treinen, Sioux Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Steen, Aryshire; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gengler, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schroeder, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ahlers and Barbara of Remsen; Mr. and Mrs. A. H. B. Schilmoeller, Granville.
Services, with full military rites at the national cemetery, Fort Sam Houston, were held last Friday.
Maj. Locer, a member of the original Co. K., LeMars, Iowa National Guard, died last Tuesday, June 22, in a hospital in San Antonio, after a long illness.
He had been in military service for 31 years, retiring in 1961. His wife is the former Leona Ludwig, Remsen. Maj. Locer was a LeMars native.
Besides the honorary guard and military casket bearers the eight honorary pallbearers were Maj. Leo R. Handley; Col. Millard Nahan; Col. Ira L. Beard; Col. Richard Siebach; Col. John Armstrong; Col. Joe O’Brien; Col. Al Kinzer Jr. and Sgt Pat Beisiadcki.
