Gordon Burkett dead at 52 in California
Gordon Burkett, 52, a Plymouth county native and former longtime LeMars resident, died Thursday (Dec. 15, 1977) at an Anaheim, Calif., hospital. He had been hospitalized two weeks.
Funeral services under direction of the Westminster funeral home, are tentatively set for Saturday, Dec. 17. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial park cemetery.
He was born April 5, 1925, at Akron to the late Lowell Burkett and Mrs. Edith Burkett, now residing in Abeline, Tex. She is the former Edith Gabel.
The family has resided in Anaheim the last 10 years. Mr. Burkett was employed by Armour Food Co. in prepared food sales the last seven years. He had worked in food sales the past 30 years.
Darrel Singer, a brother of Mrs. Burkett, who lives in Shelton, Wash. has been with his sister in Anaheim the last ten days.
His marriage to Alberta Singer took place in LeMars, Sept. 13 1946. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Singer, LeMars.
Gordon served in the navy during world war 2.
He was a member of the West Anaheim Methodist church; Morningside Masonic lodge, No. 615 and consistory, Sioux City; Al Mahilka Shrine temple, Los Angeles; past president of Savannah high school booster club; past president of Pop Warner Lions football organization.
He coached senior league White Sox baseball in southwest Anaheim and was a member of the athletic and ban boosters of Lorara high school, Anaheim.
The family requests memorials be for a scholarship fund for band students and the cancer society. This scholarship fund is set up in his name at the Bank of America, 1685 West Crescent, Anaheim, 92801, in care of S. F. Neel.
Survivors are his wife, Alberta; a daughter, Mrs. Kerry Hrabosky, Barber’s point, Hawaai; three sons, Scott, David and Richard, all of Anaheim; his mother, Mrs. Edith Burkett, Abeline; four sisters, Linda Burkett of Boston; Mrs. Eddie (Phyllis) Bull and Mrs. A. R. (Marge) Barnhill of Abeline and Mrs. Duane (Jean) Olson, Elk Point, S.D.
He is also survived by three brothers, Kenneth of Carroll; John H. of Franklin, Ind. And Terry Burkett, San Jose, Calif. And granddaughters, Kara, Krista and Kimberly Krabosky and Lisa Burkett of Anaheim.
He was preceded in death by his father.
